Avocado scab caused by the fungus Sphaceloma perseae, can be an epidemic to growers. Identifying the initial symptoms can be the first step in avoiding and eradicating the fungus from spreading. One of the most prevalent symptoms is black and brown lesions that start out as small circles almost appearing as physical damage however it eventually consumes the fruit. Avocado scab is such an issue due to the lesions it causes, it creates an easy entryway for fruit rotting organisms. Although avocado scab cannot be prevented in long periods of rain, fungicides are the best method for treatment and prevention.
