Is your bathroom too small or with not enough floor space? Or have you installed a vanity unit but find the cupboards too small? We all need places for medicines, toiletries, towels, toilet paper, shaving gear, his and her hair preparations and there are a lot of them these days. The more that’s on display, the more difficult it is to keep your bathroom clean. And if there’s one thing most of us don’t have it’s the time or inclination to do more housework.
Towels also seem to take up a great deal of space; if your bathroom has no storage cupboards, you have a problem. You need some additional furniture, but you need something that will blend with existing decor.
One way to solve this problem is to use bathroom wicker, the simple basket weave seems to go with everything. It is light to put up on the wall and usually comes in (at least) white and honey, though the best ranges come in several very beautiful colors. Ever versatile, wicker goes with just about everything and so will blend with whatever you already have. It is easy to keep and easy to change when you decorate; one can of spray paint and off you go. Just putting your bits and pieces in a basket makes them look far neater and you can find some excellent stacking units with shelves which will help make the most of the space your have.
A medicine cabinet is essential in a bathroom and if you are going to have one you may as well have something that is pleasing to the eye, you could choose between a mirrored one or a cottage type, they usually have ample storage and a pretty top shelf for things you need to keep at hand. If you are really lacking in space why not try a space saver unit this fits around the toilet and uses the usually dead wall space above it. Choose one with a cabinet and two open shelves which you can use for toiletries or decoration. The top one will be high enough to keep things out of the way of little hands, it also allows for the use of the cistern top with a matching wicker basket which could hold cotton buds, soap, clean face cloths etc.
Another essential item in a bathroom is a laundry bin. Small bathrooms need one with shelves above, this allows you to roll your colorful towels, hotel style, for a splash of color on top of the bin leaving the two shelves above, one could be for hair preparations and the other for bath and makeup. Again, if you choose the color, or buy decorative bottles, the fact that these are exposed to view will be a plus if they match your decor. If you have no other wall space available but you do have a corner, a five tier corner unit standing just over 5 feet tall will not only look good but should help to solve quite a few of your space problems.
As a final touch add an arch topped full length dressing mirror to the back of the bathroom door; it will take up no actual wall space and when the door is closed it will make the room look bigger. No one wants a small bathroom, but with the clever use of storage you can make the best use of every inch you have.
