How To: Crackle Paint

Last Modified October 18, 2016 By Staff Writer

Repainting can breathe new life into a tired old chair, unless a chair that shows its age is just what you want. Crackled paint can take a ho-hum piece from okay to rustic and charming. You’ll need to sand your intended crackle paint recipient, prime it, and put a base coat on it. Before the top coat application and any final drying and sealing, you’ll need to create the crackles. Use commercially available crackle solutions, working over it with a paintbrush, or sponge, or plain old glue, to create different sized cracks.
