How To: Remove Rust from Cast Iron

Last Modified October 7, 2016 By Staff Writer

Do you have a rusty skillet that needs cleaned? After some white vinegar, steel wool and liquid dish soap this pan will be back over the flame. A 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water eats away the rust. The pan should sit with the solution for more than one hour but less than eight. Then rinse the pan with water and scour with a bit of dish soap and steel wool. The pan can be re-seasoned as well with a tablespoon of cooking oil. Apply the oil around the pan and place it in an oven set to 350 degrees for one hour.
