Contrast is important in interior design. The most obvious use of contrast is with color. Using two shades on opposite ends of the color wheel will create a strong effect. Another contrast creating element are materials. Purposefully choosing different materials like stone and wood against chrome and steel can make them feel distinct. Finally, shapes are one last way to add contrast. Often seen in furniture, it can be used with wall art as well.
